You need to realize
That this ain't the worst of me
I've been redefined
By blood on my circuitry
To know me
Is to love me
To try to control me
Is to disgust me
Green in our sleeper eyes
But this is the bed we've made
The wolf and the sheep disguised
By sirens and serenades
Hold me
Crush me
Scold me
Trust me
I am resigned to poison the love they bleed from me
Lost on an island between Being and Need to Be
These are the times, we live in the Age of Thievery
At the back of the line, it's hard to enjoy the scenery
Forced to decide between a nightmare or a fever dream
Staying alive is so difficult to do easily
The crowd is the violence
The prayer is the silence
You need to realize
That this ain't the birth of me
I've been a problem child
Since nights in the nursery
Hold me
Crush me
Scold me
But don't trust me from the moment I say, "Hello"

It's the love, the life
Words like "sacrifice", all of these lies we hold dear
It's the reason you left me here
It's the fear
Wasted moments that taunt us with sights and sounds that will never be real
It's learning to laugh through tears
It's the need to be immortal
A mirror, a marker, have someone to say we were here
And make this reflection clear
It's the plan, the line in the sand, the reprimands
Feeling the warmth in the palm of your hand
It's fighting the fact we care
Please come
Please come in
I am so glad you came
This light ignites the fire of
Fight or flight, do or die, calling it wrong when it's right
It's the gamble we make each year
It's the crux, the heart, the marrow inside of the bone
It's the punches we've thrown
It's the feeling of grinding gears
It's the sound and the fury, the nothingness
Mountains and molehills, it's all unraveling slowly
And catching us unprepared
Sign your name, cross your heart and hope to cry
Say goodbye, whether we plummet or fly
Just know that you've kept me near
Please come
Please come in
I am so glad you came
Save me
Save me please

Afterlife

Sometimes I hate this town
I have dreams in the afternoon of watching it burn down
All the people I meet lie through their teeth
So eager to pass the buck around
Sometimes I hate my life
I am always under something - the gun, the girl, the knife
When my time comes to shine, I'll make this place go blind
After all, I'm only after mine
Do you know what time it is?
It is time for discretion in matters such as this
If afternoon brings the ending of the light
Then this town is truly afterlife
Sometimes I love someone
But I lack the concentration and always stop before I'm done
All the words in the world won't bring back that girl
Sometimes I need someone
Do you know what time it was
When I knew that I was different and never could go home
All this time, we try to find the feeling of the womb
Will we receive it in the tomb?
Bleed the poison, then drink it down
Swallow every drop
Repeat until this ride stops
Do you know what time it is?
It is time for discretion in matters such as this
If afternoon brings the ending of the light
Then this town is truly afterlife
Sometimes I hate this town
I have dreams in the afternoon of watching it burn down
All the people I meet lie through their teeth
Do you know what time it is?

Spindrift

There was time, I thought I was The One
Swallowed my pride and stared into the sun
I saw many, years ago
Lose their souls
Stood beneath the tree, to wait for fruit to drop
The taste, so overwhelming, I wished for it to stop
I saw lovers on the streets, felt their heat
Burn my body to the bone
And I was left alone
Caught up in the spindrift, the ground became the sky
Looked downward to Heaven and knew the reason why
Throw your keys into the bowl, join the fold
I saw many, years ago
Lose their souls
There was a time, I thought I was The One
Swallowed my pride and stared into the sun
